About This Project

Village Road, Wirral

The site is currently occupied by a 3 storey residential property which has been extended in the past. The brief was to provide an extension and undertake internal remodelling works to provide larger living accommodation as well as reinstating the garage that the dwelling once had.

The majority of the existing garage area fabric is to be retained including the roof structure. A new structure will then be erected which will extend the flat roof structure out towards the rear garden area. Here the roof will be enclosed with a sandstone stonework parapet wall.

A frameless glazed spine will be positioned between the living space and the existing building structure where the existing building extends out towards the rear garden. The new extension will infill the rear void currently present at the rear of the property giving the building an overall more pleasing mass/volume.

The glazed structure almost provides an invisible modern connection between the existing rendered building/structure and the sandstone stonework. This also allows light to penetrate deep into the extension and existing internal uses.

The proposed development has been designed so that it is sympathetic to elements of the existing building and does not propose to conflict with the existing surrounding properties in terms of mass, scale and aesthetics.
